Types of Asexual Reproduction

Asexual reproduction is when a single parent passes copies of all of is genes to each of its offspring. Both prokaryotes an eukaryotes can undergo this type of reproduction. The individuals produced during asexual reproduction are clones of their parent. There are several types of asexual reproduction. These are some of the different types:
1. Binary Fission
2. Fragmentation
3. Budding
Binary fission is when a parent separates into two or more individuals of equal size. Fragmentation is similar to binary fission, but in fragmentation the parent separates into several pieces. It is also different because not all of the fragments turn into complete adults during fragmentation. Budding is the next type of asexual reproduction. Budding occurs when a new individual splits off of the existing parent. Usually the bud breaks away from its parent but on some occasions the bud will stay attached to the parent. It is possible for the parent to become the host for a large group of buds.

1. Find two other types of asexual reproduction and explain what they are.
2. After finding these other two types find a plant or animal that reproduces that way and also find one for each of the previously listed types.
3. Explain why it would not be possible for humans to undergo asexual reproduction.

3 comments:

  1. 1.) Spore formation is when the organism breaks up into a number of pieces and each eventually develop into an organism like the parent form. Vegetative reproduction, found in plants, is when new individuals are formed without the production of seeds or spores.
2.) Plantlets use vegetative reproduction, fungi use spore formation, hydra use budding, bacteria use binary fission, and lichens use fragmentation.
    3. It is not possible for humans to reproduce asexually because it takes more than one parent to make a baby. This is called sexual reproduction.

  2. 1. Parthenogenesis is the growth and development of an embryo or seed without fertilization by a male. Vegetative reproduction is a type of asexual reproduction found in plants where new individuals are formed without the production of seeds or spores by meiosis or syngamy.
    2. Bees and some reptiles and fish use parthenogenesis, plants like the onion and hyacinth use vegetative reproduction, hydra use budding, corals use fragmentation, and bacteria use binary fission.
    3. It takes a man and a woman to produce offspring through sexual reproduction.

  3. 1. binary fission is one type of asexual reproduction, in binary fission a daughter organism breaks off of a mother organism, budding is another type of asexual reproduction, during budding an organism splits in half creating two organisms.
    2. fungi reproduces through binary fission, while sponges reproduce through budding
    3. Humans would not be able to go through asexual reproduction because of our complex bodys and the fact that we produce gametes.
